moving abroad when

This is one of the most common questions we hear & we understand why it makes sense.

Moving abroad is a big decision, so naturally people want to get the timing right. But the honest answer is that there is no perfect time.

Why do people keep waiting?

When people delay moving abroad, it’s rarely because they don’t have opportunities. The delay often comes from waiting for the moment when it feels completely right.

People are often waiting for more confidence, more savings, more certainty or a better job offer. They’re waiting for something that will make the decision feel easier. In reality, the moment of feeling certain will rarely come before you move.

What the right time might look like

When taking to people who have already moved abroad, you will notice a clear pattern. Most people didn’t move because everything was perfectly aligned.

When they moved abroad, things still felt uncertain, uncomfortable & far from fully figured out. Most people didn’t feel ready when they took the leap. But they did it anyway.

The difference between ready and willing

This is where most people get stuck, because they believe that they must feel completely ready.

In all honesty, what matters more is to be willing. You need to be willing to figure out things as you go, be uncomfortable for a short while & learn in a new environment. Moving abroad doesn’t require the feeling of being ready. It only requires being willing.

So when is the right time?

The right time is not when everything feels perfect & it’s not when every single detail is planned.

The right time will most likely look something like this:

  • You have an opportunity
  • You feel unsure
  • You’re not fully ready
  • Something tells you to go for it anyway

Common experiences

We speak to candidates every single day who have been thinking about moving abroad for a long time. We also speak to a lot of candidates who just came up with the idea recently.

The difference between people who finally do it and the ones who don’t is the decision.

For most people the biggest risk to take in life is not moving abroad “too early”… The biggest risk comes from waiting to make a decision for too long.
